We’re turning TWO!!! 🎂💌 And just in time to celebrate, we’re throwing our biggest playground yet… our very first Night Market! 💥🪐

Taking place in the north of Amsterdam, the Eastern Playgrounds’s first Night Market brings together artists, performers, DJs, makers, and vendors from the queer Asian diaspora to Oedipus Craft Space on Friday 18 September between 21:30 - 3:00 🍡💿🧨

The Night Market 

Inspired by the night markets of East and Southeast Asia, Oedipus Craft Space will be turned into a lively environment where you can gather, eat, participate, and encounter diverse artistic practices. Traditionally, night markets are dynamic sites where food, art, performance, games, and community converge—a living collage of culture and everyday life. Mahjong might be played at one stall beside fresh scallion pancakes being made, while someone nearby sells handmade crafts as electronic edits of Mandopop bleed from one corner into the next.

What to expect?

The Eastern Playgrounds Night Market brings this spirit to Amsterdam, transforming it into a platform for queer Asian artists across different mediums to showcase their work. Utilising both the indoor and outdoor spaces of Oedipus, the programme weaves together activities, performances, and DJ sets. You can expect prints and craft artists, nail and toothgem artists, jewelry and accessory designers, food vendors, workshops, and of course, mahjong and karaoke.

Who is Eastern Playgrounds?

Eastern Playgrounds is an Amsterdam-based queer Asian collective founded in 2024,

that creates spaces of communal care and joy for the queer Asian diaspora while centering the connection, creativity, and self-expression of queer Asian communities. 

Who is welcome?

Our events are always queer & Asian centered, but at the Nightmarket we’re welcoming everyone to join us, connect, uplift, and celebrate the diverse cultures of the queer Asian diaspora - with curiosity and respect.

Support for housing for trans women in IndonesiaWith the rise of transphobia and homophobia enabled by the Indonesian state, trans women in Yogyakarta are facing evictions from their own neighbourhoods. We believe our struggles are connected and decided to donate 30% of the profits of all ticket sales (after all the costs are deducted) towards supporting our comrades organizing on the ground in Yogyakarta. One of our EP members is in direct contact with the community in Jogja, and your donations will provide direct financial support to trans women seeking safe housing. Our fundraising goal is €700.
